Myanmar and China signed two exchange letters in line with Myanmar Sustainable Development Plans

Signing ceremony of the exchange letters between the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Government of the People’s Republic of China took place at Nay Pyi Taw on 14 March, 2019. The ceremony was held at Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations.

From China side, Mr. Deng Boqing, Deputy Administrator (Deputy Minister Level), China International Development Cooperation Agency, and Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Hong Liang, together with other officials from Chinese Embassy in Myanmar attended the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Union Minister U Thaung Tun, Ministry of Investment & Foreign Economic Relations, and Permanent Secretary U Tun Tun Naing together with other officials from different ministries joined the ceremony, from Myanmar side.

Both sides signed the exchange letters respectively at the ceremony.

The exchange letters signed between Myanmar and China, the first one was on Upgrading Project for No (2) Industrial Training Center (Mandalay) and another one was the Project for the Passenger Coaches under the Chinese Interest Free Loan.

U Tun Tun Naing, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Investment & Foreign Economic Relations spoke at the ceremony, saying that human resources development program in Myanmar has been doing between two countries. For China’s Belt & Road initiative, Myanmar State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi acted as chairperson and Myanmar has actively welcomed the projects China Myanmar Economic Corridor, under the BRI. Regarding to CMEC, the joint-committee meeting and the CMEC has been held twice between two countries.

U Tun Tun Naing further explained that the signed exchanged letters on Upgrading Project for No (2) Industrial Training Center (Mandalay) and the Project for the Passenger Coaches under the Chinese Interest Free Loan were really in line with Myanmar Sustainable Development Plans.

Following the signing ceremony, the closed door meeting between two countries was held. Regarding to the meeting, U Tun Tun Naing said, the meeting would be of great benefit for Myanmar Socio Economic Development.

Moreover, Mr. Deng Boqing, Deputy Administrator (Deputy Minister Level), China International Development Cooperation Agency explained the main objectives of doing the meeting.

He said, it is firstly to implement the leaders’ agreements and consents between two countries, and to have a clear understanding on the projects currently carrying out under China aid program in Myanmar.

Secondly, it is to implement the projects of China Myanmar Economic Corridor as a part of Belt & Road Initiative which is to be in line with Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan.

And finally, it is to discuss the 2nd time Belt & Road Forum to be held in Beijing and the official exchange trip plans between two countries in 2019.
