The Current Situation of Beijing Nucleic Acid Test

01 July 2020

The Beijing Health Commission said on Tuesday that seven new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were recorded on Monday, raising total infections to 324 since 11 June, when the first case from Beijing's Xinfadi market cluster was detected. As of Sunday last week, 8.29 million samples were taken for nucleic acid test meaning that nearly 40% of capital’s total population has been tested for COVID-19. The reports say that Beijing is facing the new wave of the outbreak from the last few weeks.

Ma Su Thet Hmue from China Media Group, CRI (Myanmar Department) talked more about the condition now in Beijing said, “According to the press conference by Beijing Health Commission on 22 June, the situation was quite complicated. However, it is improving to the positive side of the result. This is why the officials are very serious about carrying out the tasks to contain the virus and we see that everything is done strictly and in orderly manner. As for now, Beijing is not in complete lockdown for further procedures but we definitely see the responsible officials are taking the step seriously to contain the virus and another thing is we don’t want the people go panic at all. Things are going normally, the areas where there is no case of the infected person, wards, groceries shops, supermarket and other restaurants are open as usual.”

Among the confirmed cases, the authority also reported the asymptomatic case and the authority also emphasized importance to testing the people who might have more social contacts with the people. The report also stated that the authority as of Saturday last week, more than 100,000 deliverymen in Beijing have received nucleic acid test and all of them tested negative for COVID-19.

The State Post Bureau also said that it will strengthen disinfection at workplace, enhance health management of deliverymen.

Ma Su Thet Hmue also spoke further on the differences of the case from that of Wuhan and she said, “The report says that the first case in Beijing came from Beijing’s Xinfadi market where the cluster was detected on 11 June. Some of the possible ways of the infection are said to be frozen seafood and social contact among the commuters. Although there are several rumors about the spread of virus from Wuhan, World Health Organization has ruled out that COVID-19 is not man-made virus, it might have come from the bats and the root cause of the virus is the nature. According to the report by the scientists in Spain, they found COVID-19 trance in water in March 2019 which is 9 months earlier than the first case report of the virus in China. For now there is no complete answer to this question and the questions are still raised regarding the origin of the virus and the scientists are still looking for the answer.”

Speaking on the condition of nucleic acid test Ma Su Thet Hmue said, “Till 28 June, a total of 8.29 million nucleic acid samples have been collected and 7.68 million people have gone through nucleic acid test and it is also reported that whoever was willing to take nucleic test has been performed. There are 128 centers across Beijing where nucleic acid test can be performed. The authority is also constructing first air film nucleic acid laboratory which is 16 in number and when the construction is complete, it is said that it can perform 100,000 tests per day.”
