China to provide 300,000 units of COVID-19 vaccines to Myanmar

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Mr. Wang Yi who paid a visit to Myanmar on Monday promised to help Myanmar recover from COVID-19 pandemic. President U Win Myint received the Chinese delegation led by the State Councilor and Foreign Minister at the Hall for Envoys of the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw.

At the meeting, both sides discussed fostering the existing friendly relations and bilateral cooperation, continued cooperation in building a community of shared future between the two countries, working together for fighting against COVID-19, pledge made by China to donate Yuan 3-million worth of COVID-19 medical supplies, China to provide 300,000 units of COVID-19 vaccines for the Myanmar people, continuing implementation of the Myanmar-China Cultural and Tourism Year in 2021, and maintaining the momentum of ongoing bilateral projects.

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister, Mr. Wang Yi also met State Counsellor and Minister for Foreign Affairs Daw Aung San Suu Kyi where they both discussed on fostering bilateral relations. At the meeting, they exchanged views on matters relating to the signing of an action plan for establishing the Myanmar-China Community of Shared Future while making programs for state visits; maintaining the momentum for implementation of the bilateral projects including the transport infrastructure projects under the Myanmar-China Economic Corridor; cooperation between the two countries to combat the COVID-19 pandemic; China to supply COVID-19 vaccines for the people of Myanmar; the continued celebration of the Myanmar-China Cultural and Tourism Year in 2021; cooperation for maintenance of peace and stability along the border; and closer collaboration between the two countries in regional and multilateral forum, including the United Nations.

State Councellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi also stressed that she will give priority to peace and reconciliation process in the next term of the government and request Chinese support in the process as well.

During the official visit of the Chinese delegation, the two sides signed and exchanged the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between Myanmar and China, Five Year Development Program for Trade and Economic Cooperation between Myanmar and China, the Memorandum of Understanding on Feasibility Study of the Mandalay-Kyaukpyu Railway Project, the Minutes of Meeting for Investigation of Feasibility Study of Rural Roads and Bridge Improvement Project in Myanmar, Hand-over Certificate of Cash Support for the Resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons in Kachin State and Hand-over Certificate of Purchasing Passenger Coaches under Chinese Interest-free Loan Project.
